“You don't have to be Miss Universe Philippines material agad. You should have the potential. And we will be here to train you,” said MUPh National Director Shamcey Supsup-Lee.

She further described that confidence and leadership are the touchstone qualities of their ideal candidate.

“In the past winner of Miss Universe, they're really looking for a spokesperson--somebody that could really communicate and who's confident and somebody who wants to have an impact in the community.

“We want to see a leader. Kumbaga, meron kang fire that you wanna use your position to help others.

“What we're looking for is meron ka nang innate na kailangan mo nalang i-nurture. There's this drive and there's this want to improve themselves and be the perfect example or role model of who a truly empowered Filipina is.”

The former beauty queen also acknowledged that beauty is a bonus.

“Of course, it is a plus to be beautiful. It's a beauty pageant di ba?”

However, the organization clarified that all types of beauty can win the most coveted title of Miss Universe Philippines.

Whether the next representative will be pure Pinay or not, “It doesn't matter,” said Jonas Gaffud, the Creative Director of MUPh.

“Before, the prototype was like, we really wanted kapag Miss Universe Philippines kailangan parang Miriam Quiambao-Pinay na Pinay, straight hair, black hair.

“But, you know, I think Pia and Catriona, and even the other girls also like Megan from Miss World, hindi sila yung pure but they were able to win the titles.

“But I am not also discounting the fact that a pure-blooded Filipina can win Miss Universe.”

Still according to Gaffud, the Miss Universe Philippines organization believes that: “It's not all about the cause.

“If you do not have an advocacy yet, you can learn to have an advocacy after with the help of our organization.”

In a nutshell, MUPh is looking for someone who wants to win the title.

Furthermore, the National Director assured that aspirants should not worry because the organization will guide them in each and every step of the way to reach the Miss Universe crown.

“Looking back, talagang it has reached a new level. I've heard that a lot of girls are intimidated to join Miss Universe Philippines because of the standards that they think we have placed there.

“But as I've said, kaya nga siya it takes two to three months prior to the main pageant because we really want to train them well.

“I think, it really has to start within. So, kung meron kang will then everything is possible.”

The Miss Universe Philippines coronation night will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 3.
